Sen. Rodante Marcoleta on Monday denied any conflict of interest over his wife’s ties to insurance firms linked to contractors under probe in the flood control scandal.
He clarified that his wife, Edna, serves only as an independent director and audit committee chair at Stronghold Insurance Co. Inc., with no role in management or bond issuance.
Reports earlier surfaced that Stronghold and Milestone Guaranty, where Edna also sat as a director, issued bonds to Discaya-owned firms involved in alleged ghost and substandard projects.
Marcoleta dismissed the allegations as a smear campaign, stressing that his independence as a legislator remains intact.
Stronghold likewise defended Edna, saying she joined the board only in 2024 and had no hand in decisions tied to the Discayas’ contracts.
