LGUS TOLD TO ENFORCE STRICTER VAPE, TOBACCO REGULATIONS

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged local government units (LGUs) to enact ordinances that align with and strengthen the enforcement of national laws regulating tobacco and vaporized nicotine products.

In a memorandum circular, the DILG emphasized that LGU policies must complement, not contradict, existing national regulations.

These include laws such as RA 9211, RA 11900, and the Graphic Health Warning Law, which cover sales restrictions, smoke-free environments, and age-based prohibitions.

LGUs are specifically reminded to enforce bans in indoor public areas like elevators and stairwells, and to prevent sales to minors and non-smokers.

The directive aims to bolster public health protections and ensure consistent nationwide implementation of tobacco control laws.
