Las Piñas councilor Mark Anthony Santos has announced his intention to run against Senator Cynthia Villar for the city’s congressional seat in the upcoming midterm elections.
Santos, currently serving his seventh term and previously chief of staff to the late Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar, is an advocate for socialized housing and has proposed a resolution for an ₱85 million budget for land acquisition for informal settlers.
He has also pushed for the collection of ₱213.55 million in delinquent real property taxes from Villar’s companies, asserting that they still owe the city about ₱70 million in taxes and penalties.
In response, Senator Villar stated that the tax issue is a corporate matter, not related to her duties as a senator, and assured her willingness to settle the obligations.
Villar, a long-time public servant, previously represented Las Piñas and has served as a senator since 2013.
