Labor groups under the National Wage Coalition (NWC) rallied at the House of Representatives on Monday, urging lawmakers to pass the P200 across-the-board wage hike before the 19th Congress adjourns next week.
The NWC, composed of the country’s major labor federations, appealed to Speaker Martin Romualdez and other legislators to fulfill the decades-old constitutional promise of a living wage.
While the Senate approved a P100 wage hike last year, the House has only passed the P200 version on second reading.
Despite the limited time left, labor leaders remain hopeful the bill will be enacted.
However, Romualdez previously said the wage hike is not among the House’s priority measures, which include bills on offshore gaming, disaster response, civil registry, and senior citizen benefits.
