Jonas Magpantay ruled the Universal Nine-Ball Open in Jakarta, Indonesia, after defeating Taiwan’s Chang Sheng Yi, 13-5, in the final on Sunday.
Magpantay completed an unbeaten 8-0 run in the tournament to claim his first World Nineball Tour title and second major championship overall, following his victory in the Qatar 10-Ball World Cup last year.
The 32-year-old Filipino pocketed the top prize of USD15,000, or nearly P920,000, for his triumph.
Along the way, Magpantay defeated several opponents, including fellow Filipinos James Aranas, Bernie Regalario, and Jefrey Roda in the knockout stages.
Other Filipino bets, including reigning world champion Carlo Biado and Johann Chua, failed to advance deep into the competition.
