The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has approved a provisional fare increase for public utility vehicles effective tomorrow, citing rising fuel prices, higher operating costs, and wage adjustments.
LTFRB chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the hike covers jeepneys, buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services, with new rates to remain provisional until operators secure updated fare matrices by June.
Traditional and modern jeepneys, as well as buses and airport taxis, will see increases in base fares and per-kilometer charges, while TNVS and P2P buses will also implement adjustments.
Transport groups expressed mixed reactions, with some calling the increase insufficient while commuter advocates criticized its impact on the public.
The LTFRB said it would consider fare reductions if fuel prices decline, emphasizing the need to balance the interests of drivers and commuters.
