JAPAN STRENGTHENS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH PHILIPPINES AND ASEAN 

Japan reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with the Philippines and ASEAN during the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meetings, highlighting the 70th anniversary of Japan-Philippines diplomatic relations and the recently elevated Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. 

Japan emphasized the importance of ASEAN’s central role in maintaining a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific amid growing global and regional security challenges. 

It also pledged continued support for the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 through initiatives that enhance regional defense capabilities, energy security, economic resilience, and disaster preparedness. 

Tokyo said its updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) strategy will focus on helping regional partners strengthen self-reliance, secure critical supply chains, and adapt to emerging technologies. 

Japan expressed its commitment to working closely with ASEAN countries, including the Philippines, to promote lasting peace, stability, and shared prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
