Businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles, alleged mastermind of the “pork barrel” scam, was found guilty in 12 cases—six for malversation and six for graft—over the misuse of former Rep. Samuel Dangwa’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). The Sandiganbayan convicted Napoles and several coaccused for unlawfully taking P92.103 million between 2007 and 2010 through fictitious or unimplemented projects. Napoles received the maximum penalty of reclusion perpetua in two cases, with other sentences ranging from six to 17 years. Some coaccused were also ordered to pay fines and return misappropriated funds, while several individuals were cleared due to lack of evidence. Napoles has been serving prison terms since 2018 and has also faced multiple convictions for money laundering related to the PDAF scam.
