JAMILA RUMA, 21, BECOMES COUNTRY’S YOUNGEST MAYOR

At just 21 years old, Jamila Ruma has been proclaimed the new mayor of Rizal town in Cagayan, making her the youngest mayor-elect in the country.

She won as a substitute candidate for her late father, Mayor Joel Ruma, who was assassinated during a campaign sortie on April 23.

Jamila earned 5,134 votes, defeating retired general Ralph Mamauag and Florence Littaua.

A De La Salle University Manila graduate with honors, she vowed to continue her father’s legacy and serve the people with dedication.

Her mother, Brenda Ruma, also secured a second term as vice mayor.
