Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) ended its planned three-day anti-corruption rally a day early on November 17, saying it had already delivered its message of justice, transparency, and accountability.
INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala said the group cut the protest short because its objectives were met and participants were exhausted, despite massive crowds reaching over 550,000 on Monday and 600,000 on Sunday.
Although organizers emphasized that the rally was non-political, the event took a partisan turn when Senator Imee Marcos alleged during her speech that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was using illegal drugs.
The religious group, known for its influential bloc-voting power, had endorsed Marcos, Vice President Sara Duterte, and several senators in the 2022 elections.
INC also distanced itself from ouster calls by barring supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte who attempted to join the rally with “Marcos Resign” banners.
