Senator Imee Marcos has officially announced that she will not run under her brother President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration slate in the upcoming midterm elections, opting instead to campaign as an independent candidate.
While grateful for her inclusion in the administration’s lineup, she emphasized the importance of being free to engage with all political parties and avoid complicating her brother’s position.
Despite her decision, the administration coalition continues to support her, and the President acknowledged that her choice allows her greater freedom in campaigning.
Imee expressed her commitment to remaining independent, citing the need to protect her brother and asserting that her decision is a significant personal sacrifice.
In other election news, Sagip party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta announced his intention to run for the Senate, while Dr. Willie Ong declared his candidacy despite his ongoing battle with cancer.
