Senator Imee Marcos filed Resolution 340, urging the Philippine government to secure the immediate release of former President Rodrigo Duterte from detention at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, marking one year since his arrest on March 11, 2025.
Marcos criticized the Executive branch for failing to protect Duterte’s constitutional and statutory rights and called for full disclosure of all communications and agreements with the ICC regarding his detention.
She pressed the government to clarify its policy on cooperation with the ICC and to hold officials accountable for any violations of Duterte’s rights.
The senator warned against bypassing the Philippine judiciary in future ICC matters, stressing the need to safeguard constitutional safeguards and the rule of law.
Her resolution emphasizes transparency, accountability, and the prevention of similar actions against political opponents or retired officials.
