ILOILO CONSIDERS ADVANCED WASTE-TO-ENERGY PROJECT FOR 43 MUNICIPALITIES

The provincial government of Iloilo is reviewing a proposal by MetPower Venture Partners to establish an advanced solid waste management facility that converts residual waste into renewable energy.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. met with MetPower executives to discuss a modular public-private partnership facility capable of handling waste from the province’s 43 municipalities.

The modular design makes the project potentially viable despite lower waste volumes, addressing a challenge that stalled a similar proposal two years ago.

Current data shows that 35 municipalities generate around 80 tons of residual waste per day, disposed of at Passi City.

The project aims to combine environmental sustainability with energy production while providing a practical solution to the province’s solid waste problem.
