The House of Representatives has passed a bill amending Republic Act 10591, updating key provisions of the country’s firearms laws.
The new law shortens gun bans from six months to 45 days before elections and five days after voting.
It also increases the ammunition purchase limit from 50 to 500 rounds for non-sport shooters and up to 5,000 rounds for sport shooters.
Additionally, the permit to carry firearms validity is extended from two to five years, while business licenses for firearms manufacturers are extended from five to 10 years.
Gun owners and manufacturers welcomed the changes, calling the reforms a significant victory for the firearms community in the Philippines.
