HOUSE COMMITTEE BEGINS DELIBERATIONS ON ANTI-POLITICAL DYNASTY BILLS

The House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms will start deliberations on 20 anti-political dynasty bills on Jan. 27, to craft an effective version, legally sound, and constitutionally compliant, according to Chairman Zia Alonto Adiong.

Key resource persons include former Supreme Court justices Adolfo Azcuna, Reynato Puno, Artemio Panganiban, associate justice Antonio Carpio, and legal experts like Christian Monsod and Wilfrido Villacorta.

The committee will also hear from top legal scholars, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia, and leaders of the Philippine Bar Association and Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

Lawmakers like Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña emphasized growing public support to finally legislate the Constitution’s mandate banning political dynasties.

Speaker Faustino Dy III and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Congress to prioritize a clear and just definition of political dynasties as part of broader reform measures.
