Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros is preparing a strong legal response against former Senate hearing witness Michael Maurilio, who claimed he was forced by her to testify against the Dutertes and televangelist Apollo Quiboloy.
Maurilio alleged in a video that he was paid P1 million by Hontiveros to tarnish their reputations during a Senate hearing in February.
Hontiveros denied the accusations, asserting that all witnesses testified freely and voluntarily, with ample evidence to support their claims.
She also suggested that Maurilio might have been coerced or paid off to derail the ongoing criminal proceedings against Quiboloy and intimidate witnesses.
Maurilio, a former member of Quiboloy’s group, previously testified about forced labor and abuse, and warned of threats he faced after leaving the religious organization.
