Ayl Xyza Gonzaga, a 13-year-old tennis prodigy from Olongapo City, is back in training for the Central Luzon regional qualifying for this year’s Palarong Pambansa.
Gonzaga recently earned the title of Most Valuable Player at the Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas National Juniors Tennis Championships in Digos City, Davao del Sur, after winning three titles.
She claimed the U14 singles title with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, followed by a U16 singles win, and partnered with Sanchena Francisco to capture the U18 doubles crown.
Gonzaga expressed gratitude for the support from her family, friends, and coach Richard Cunanan, and shared her hope to qualify for Palarong Pambansa again after previously winning a mixed doubles bronze medal in Cebu.
She is also a member of the Philippine team that placed fourth in the World Juniors U14 tournament in Bahrain last February.
