GATCHALIAN REJECTS CAYETANO’S JOINT SENATE LEADERSHIP PROPOSAL AMID IMPEACHMENT TENSIONS

Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian has rejected Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano’s proposal for a joint administrative arrangement to ease tensions within the Senate amid leadership disputes and the upcoming impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Cayetano had suggested a dual-signatory system for key Senate documents to prevent disruptions in operations and ensure continuity of the impeachment court’s work.

Gatchalian reportedly dismissed the proposal in a letter, asserting his authority over Senate administration, though he has not released a public copy of his response.

Cayetano criticized the move and accused the opposing bloc of usurping authority, while tensions continue over the disputed June 3 Senate reorganization.

The controversy unfolds as the impeachment court prepares for pre-trial proceedings involving Duterte’s four Articles of Impeachment.
