Motorists in the Philippines may face a sharp rise in fuel prices as escalating tensions in the Middle East disrupt global energy supply chains.
Diesel prices are projected to jump by up to ₱20 per liter, pushing Metro Manila pump prices toward ₱80, while gasoline could rise by ₱10 per liter to about ₱62–₱66.
The spike is driven by regional supply pressures, including potential crude flow disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz and China’s plan to restrict fuel exports.
Energy experts warn that higher fuel costs may also impact electricity prices, with liquefied natural gas and power generation costs likely to rise.
The Energy Regulatory Commission and the Independent Electricity Market Operator are coordinating stress tests and mitigation measures to protect consumers from market shocks.
