Senatorial aspirant Francis Leo Antonio Marcos withdrew from the May 12 midterm elections, citing his concern over the P132 million cost to the government for printing new ballots that would include his name.
Marcos, who recently obtained a temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Supreme Court against his disqualification, submitted his Statement of Withdrawal to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
He explained that he did not want to burden the government with unnecessary expenses and urged his supporters to back the candidacy of his sister, reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos.
Marcos emphasized that his decision was driven by principle and that he had not been influenced by others.
His withdrawal follows the SC’s TRO against the Comelec’s declaration of him as a nuisance candidate.
