The FBI has issued a warning about hoax bomb threats targeting polling stations in several US states on Election Day, with many of the threats believed to originate from Russian email domains. While none of the threats have been deemed credible, authorities are on high alert following disruptions in Georgia, where fake bomb threats briefly interrupted voting.
In Georgia, at least seven polling stations in Fulton County were temporarily closed due to the threats, though none remained shut for more than 30 minutes. Officials confirmed the threats were traced back to Russia, but provided no further details. Despite the disruption, local leaders remained defiant, with South Fulton’s Mayor Kobi saying, “We are the Blackest city in the United States,” emphasizing the resilience of voters who faced much worse struggles to secure their right to vote.
The FBI has urged the public to stay vigilant, as Election Day security concerns grow amid fears of civil unrest, election interference, and potential violence at polling sites.
