Senate President Francis Escudero acknowledged the appeal of a joint Senate and House investigation into alleged extrajudicial killings (EJKs) under the Duterte administration but stated that no Senate rule allows for such a joint probe.
This response came after Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers suggested a joint investigation for a more thorough and faster process.
Barbers, who leads the House committee on dangerous drugs, emphasized the need for impartiality and alignment between the House and Senate on addressing EJKs.
He also proposed a parallel investigation, noting that bicameral coordination could expedite discussions.
The House quad committee began investigating EJKs in August, hearing testimony from self-confessed killers about alleged murders linked to former President Duterte.
