ENRILE, 101, GIVEN SENATE NECROLOGICAL RITES AFTER DECADES OF SERVICE

The Senate will hold necrological services on November 19 for former Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile, who passed away on November 13 at the age of 101.

Senators adopted a resolution expressing deep condolences, honoring Enrile—fondly known as “Manong Johnny”—for his decades-long service and immense contributions to legislation.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III and other lawmakers praised Enrile’s integrity, legal brilliance, and leadership, noting his fairness and dedication to public service.

Enrile served 23 years in the Senate, including a five-year stint as its 21st president, and later returned to government in 2022 as chief presidential legal counsel.

His former colleagues described him as a towering legal mind whose impact on national policy and governance spanned generations.
