Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena will begin his outdoor season in early June as he focuses on intensive training in Formia, Italy to rebuild his form and return to top world rankings.
Once ranked world No. 2, Obiena has slipped to No. 12 but is currently prioritizing strength and conditioning work before resuming competitions, including possible Diamond League events.
His camp said the athlete is undergoing a structured training phase with reduced jumping to allow proper recovery and build-up after a busy indoor season.
Adviser Jim Lafferty expressed confidence in Obiena’s health and performance, noting that the current program is designed to avoid injuries and improve consistency.
The team believes the delayed start will help Obiena peak strongly once he returns to competition.
