Eight barangay chairmen in Leyte are under investigation for improperly receiving cash assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DoLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) program.
Each of the chairmen received P4,050 from the program intended to provide temporary employment to displaced workers.
After being informed of the violation, they returned a total of P44,550. DoLE field office head Engineer Emmanuel de la Cruz noted that the guidelines for eligibility were clearly explained to the officials during a prior orientation.
The issue was discovered during a verification process, revealing that some beneficiaries were barangay officials.
