Filipino tennis players Alex Eala and Shaira Hope Rivera opened their women’s doubles campaign at the Asian Games with a straight-set victory over Hong Kong’s Lai Ching Laam and Kallista Liu, winning 6-1, 6-3.
The Philippine tandem secured the first-round victory at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center in Japan on September 29, 2026.
Despite losing the opening game, Eala and Rivera quickly established their rhythm and controlled the match to advance to the next round.
The pair will face China’s third-seeded duo, Xinyu Jiang and Zhaoxuan Yang, in their next doubles match.
The victory added to the Philippines’ successful opening in the tennis competition, with other Filipino doubles teams also advancing in their respective events.
