The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will issue four labor advisories to protect workers from extreme heat amid the expected El Niño, Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino said.
The guidelines will cover workplace safety measures, protection for outdoor workers, and compensation for work-related heat illnesses such as heat stroke, heat cramps, and heat exhaustion.
Tolentino stressed that workers should not face salary deductions for complying with the safety measures.
DOLE will also issue guidelines for delivery riders, allowing them to take shelter at designated cooling stations without being penalized for delayed deliveries caused by extreme heat.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that El Niño could persist through December and possibly into early 2027, bringing hotter temperatures and reduced rainfall.
