The Department of Justice (DoJ) is enhancing its efforts to combat environmental crimes, as announced by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
The DoJ has issued Department Circular (DC) 020-B, which broadens the scope of case build-up to include environmental violations, crucial for enforcing laws like the Revised Forestry Code and the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
This new directive builds on a previous circular that focused on heinous crimes, emphasizing the urgent need to tackle issues like illegal logging and poaching that threaten ecosystems.
Remulla highlighted the importance of collaboration between prosecutors and law enforcement to ensure strong legal action against violators.
Capacity-building initiatives and training programs are being implemented to equip officials with the skills needed to enforce these regulations effectively.
