The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has launched a nationwide infrastructure audit of local government unit (LGU) buildings to prepare for potential earthquakes.
The audit will focus on critical public buildings in densely populated areas along active fault lines, prioritizing hospitals, schools, government offices, and emergency facilities.
Findings will be compiled into a database to help assess hazards and guide policy development at local and national levels.
LGUs are instructed to form audit teams led by local chiefs and supported by experts, while DILG regional offices will provide oversight and establish Local Infrastructure Learning Hubs.
Cultural sites will be audited annually, essential service facilities every three years, and government buildings every five years.
