The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that a second Filipino has died following the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar last month.
The Philippine embassy in Yangon identified the remains of the second victim, though the DFA withheld further details out of respect for the family’s wishes.
The first Filipino fatality was confirmed earlier this week, with identification made through a tattoo and passport.
Repatriation of the remains may be challenging due to the body’s condition, according to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega.
Two Filipinos remain missing as search efforts continue, while over 3,000 people were reported killed in the quake.
