Five senior officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) have submitted their courtesy resignations to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., aiming to allow the new leadership under Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara to select his own team.
Among those who tendered their resignations are Undersecretary Michael Wesley Poa, Undersecretary Nolasco Mempin, Assistant Secretary Sunshine Fajarda, Assistant Secretary Reynold Munsayac for Procurement, and Assistant Secretary Noel Baluyan for Administration.
The resignations, effective July 19, 2024, coinciding with Vice President Sara Duterte’s departure as education secretary, were disclosed by Angara during an interview, emphasizing his intent to swiftly initiate reforms upon assuming office.
The Alliance of Concerned Teachers welcomed the resignations, urging Angara to appoint individuals committed to addressing educational challenges without repeating past administrative shortcomings.
