Malacañang expressed its support for filing criminal charges against resigned National Police Commission (Napolcom) Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo, who is implicated in the 2020 murder of former PCSO board secretary Wesley Barayuga and the 2016 killing of three Chinese drug convicts.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stated that while the Palace backs the charges, it will leave the decision to the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the Ombudsman.
Leonardo resigned from his position on October 4 after being linked to the killings during a House quad committee hearing.
President Marcos has accepted his resignation, as confirmed in a letter to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
Leonardo and former PCSO general manager Royina Garma were accused of orchestrating Barayuga’s murder.
