Quezon City Rep. Juan Carlos Atayde and Caloocan Rep. Dean Asistio voluntarily appeared before the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to address allegations of receiving kickbacks from anomalous flood control projects.
Both lawmakers requested executive sessions to discuss the matter without public exposure, emphasizing they were cooperating to clear their names.
Atayde denied any involvement in project procurement, contractor selection, or budget manipulation, calling the claims part of a smear campaign.
Asistio likewise stated that his interactions with contractor Pacifico Discaya were limited and vowed to provide additional information to the ICI.
The hearing underscores ongoing investigations into flood control project anomalies and the efforts of Congress members to respond to corruption allegations.
