The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has warned all candidates in the May 12 midterm elections against submitting false Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCEs).
Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said untruthful or inaccurate SOCEs could lead to charges of falsification and perjury under election laws.
As mandated by Republic Act No. 7166, candidates and political parties must file their complete and truthful SOCEs within 30 days after election day, with the deadline set on June 11.
Non-compliance may result in fines and, for repeat offenders, perpetual disqualification from public office.
Garcia emphasized that the deadline will not be extended and applies to both winning and losing candidates.
