The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a warning to candidates participating in the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) regarding the use of campaign jingles that are not gender-sensitive.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized that candidates found using campaign jingles that are obscene, offensive, or violate gender sensitivity principles may face disqualification cases.
During an interview, Chairman Garcia specifically mentioned a candidate from Nueva Ecija who has been playing a campaign jingle that is deemed inappropriate. He further stated that if the candidate fails to remove the offensive jingle within the week, a disqualification case will be filed against them.
The Comelec has outlined the types of election campaigns or propaganda materials that are prohibited. These include materials that violate gender sensitivity principles, are obscene, discriminatory, offensive, or contravene the provisions of the Magna Carta of Women. Candidates need to adhere to these guidelines to ensure a fair and inclusive electoral process.
