The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is considering early voting and mall voting for the 2025 midterm elections to protect voters from extreme heat, according to Comelec Chairman George Garcia.
Early voting, scheduled from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., will be optional for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities, aiming to provide them with a cooler environment to cast their votes.
Garcia emphasized the importance of accommodating vulnerable groups who may struggle to vote in hot weather, suggesting that voting in air-conditioned malls could offer a more comfortable alternative.
However, Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco stated that voter registration is unlikely to be extended beyond September to allow for other election preparations.
