The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has implemented a new anti-discrimination rule during the campaign period, classifying bullying and discrimination as election offenses.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia announced that acts of bullying or discrimination against women, persons with disabilities (PWDs), or other vulnerable groups will be penalized, ensuring a fair and non-discriminatory campaign.
Violations of the rule, including coercion, gender-based harassment, and vilification of PWDs, will result in legal charges and possible disqualification of candidates.
Garcia emphasized the commission’s enforcement power, stressing that they will not hesitate to take action against violators.
The 2025 elections will also require candidates to disclose their use of social media influencers in their campaigns, even if unpaid.
