CHINA SPY LEAK MAY HAVE EXPOSED AYUNGIN RESUPPLY MISSIONS — PCG

Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela said sensitive information allegedly passed to Chinese intelligence by a suspected spy linked to a coast guard personnel may have compromised Philippine resupply missions to Ayungin Shoal.

The leaked data reportedly involved supply operations to the grounded warship BRP Sierra Madre, which hosts a small Marine detachment.

Tarriela said the information may have allowed China to anticipate Philippine vessel movements in the West Philippine Sea.

The statement followed confirmation by the National Security Council that individuals suspected of acting on behalf of Chinese intelligence had been arrested and their network dismantled.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of China in Manila denied the allegations, calling them “malicious smears,” while Philippine officials maintained that the investigation is ongoing.
