China’s foreign ministry announced on Friday that it had taken “countermeasures” against two Philippine military aircraft that entered its airspace over the South China Sea on August 22.
The aircraft was reportedly trespassed near the Nansha Islands, including Subi Reef, where China maintains a military presence.
While the specifics of the countermeasures were not disclosed, China described them as “professional, restrained, and standardized” actions to protect its sovereignty and security.
The move underscores ongoing tensions between China and the Philippines in the region, where recent incidents include collisions between coast guard ships and concerns over Chinese encroachment on Philippine maritime territory.
The United States condemned China’s actions, highlighting the growing geopolitical friction in the South China Sea.
