The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has expressed its commitment to supporting the Department of Education (DepEd) in addressing the education crisis in the Philippines, particularly in bridging learning gaps.
CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III released a statement on December 6, stating that they will continue to collaborate with DepEd to resolve the education crisis. The statement from CHED comes in response to the recent release of the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) report.
CHED expressed appreciation to Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte for her efforts in addressing the outcomes and implications of the 2022 PISA, acknowledging her “whole-of-country perspective.”
During the PISA national forum, Duterte acknowledged the uncomfortable truth revealed by the results, with a significant majority of students falling below the proficiency level required for full participation in society.
However, she expressed confidence that by working together, all education stakeholders can improve learning outcomes and uplift the quality of education in the country.
CHED reiterated its commitment to working closely with DepEd, not only to enhance the performance of Filipino learners in international large-scale assessments (ILSAs), but also to improve the overall quality of education in the Philippines.
