The Provincial Government of Bulacan led the Philippines’ first nationwide mass spay and castration drive on March 19 in Malolos City, coinciding with Rabies Awareness Month under the theme “A Rabies-Free Future Starts with Me.”
The campaign, conducted in partnership with veterinary associations and offices nationwide, performed at least 3,000 procedures simultaneously across 22 provinces, 40 cities, and 19 municipalities.
Officials emphasized the initiative’s focus on responsible pet ownership, rabies prevention, animal welfare, and the vital role of veterinarians in public health.
Senator Mark Villar and PVMA President Dr. Lina Policarpio highlighted the urgency of controlling rabies, citing millions of stray animals as potential carriers, while Governor Daniel Fernando announced the upcoming Provincial Veterinary Hospital to provide free pet services.
The event also called for Congress and local governments to strengthen veterinary services nationwide and promote humane treatment and care for animals.
