Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has raised concerns over alleged anomalies in several Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood control projects in the city, including one along the San Juan River that has been divided into 66 phases over four years.
Belmonte questioned the lack of clarity on the project’s specifics and exact locations, noting that some entries even carried wrong coordinates.
Of the 141 completed DPWH projects listed, the city found another 113 ongoing works worth over ₱14.34 billion, yet only two had secured proper coordination certificates with the local government.
Initial inspections revealed that many projects were not aligned with the city’s drainage masterplan and, in some cases, may have reduced the capacity of waterways.
Belmonte stressed that while the city supports national projects, coordination and transparency are essential moving forward.
