President Marcos has appointed Vince Dizon as the new Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), replacing Jaime Bautista, who resigned due to health reasons.
Dizon, who has held various key roles in the Duterte administration, including as the head of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the presidential adviser on flagship programs, will begin his term on February 21.
His appointment has received wide support from lawmakers and industry groups, who praised his experience in infrastructure development and public service.
Dizon’s immediate tasks include accelerating the completion of major rail projects and finding new funding sources for railway initiatives affected by China’s withdrawal.
As he takes on this role, Dizon is urged to engage with commuters to address pressing transportation issues such as fare hikes, extended train operating hours, and improved public transport services.
