President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the urgent need to improve basic education infrastructure and services in schools nationwide.
Their concerns include logistical shortages, a growing student mental health crisis, and the impact of recurring natural disasters that disrupt learning.
Recent site visits revealed issues such as a lack of electricity in remote schools, overcrowded classrooms in Cavite, and the absence of licensed guidance counselors in some regions.
To address these challenges, the Department of Education plans to build over 15,000 new classrooms by 2027, strengthen mental health support, and expand its School-Based Feeding Program.
Both officials stressed that improving school facilities and student well-being is crucial to giving every child a real chance to learn.
