BARANGAY TANODS ORDERED BY DILG TO STRENGTHEN SCHOOL SAFETY

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced the deployment of barangay tanods to public schools nationwide following recent violent incidents in Nueva Ecija and Lanao del Sur.

The tanods will monitor school safety, manage traffic, patrol premises, and secure school zones to protect students, teachers, and staff.

The move comes after an 18-year-old student shot his girlfriend in Nueva Ecija, and a student in Lanao del Sur fatally shot a teacher who had failed him in an exam.

The Department of Education is providing support to victims and reviewing security protocols, including considering CCTV and increased police visibility near schools.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the need for community efforts to address the root causes of school violence, including the impact of social media.
