Baguio City Mayor Magalong reported that strict monitoring and policy enforcement have successfully deterred illegal squatting and construction in protected areas.
Observations by the city’s building and architecture office revealed that ongoing surveillance has effectively safeguarded the city’s watersheds.
This year, two unauthorized structures were promptly removed following due process, while 489 illegal structures were demolished last year.
The number of reported illegal structures has decreased due to the city’s anti-squatting measures initiated in 2022.
Magalong commended various city departments and officials for their efforts in protecting Baguio’s natural and private areas and instructed barangay officials to continue monitoring for illegal constructions.
