The General Services Office (GSO) in the Summer Capital is promoting home composting practices to help residents manage biodegradable waste effectively.
GSO officer Eugene Buyucan emphasized the simplicity of composting, involving basic techniques like using containers—plastic, wood, or cement—to store biodegradable waste, which is covered with soil for decomposition.
Residents are encouraged to repeat this process, with compost ready for use in one to two months in backyard gardens. Buyucan also suggested alternative methods like using African night crawlers.
Amid the city’s daily solid waste production of 550 tons, where biodegradable waste makes up 39 percent, the initiative aims to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable waste management practices locally.
