“Alleged Cyanide Fishing: Philippines Considers Legal Measures Against China, Vietnam”
The Philippines is considering filing cases against China and Vietnam following allegations of cyanide fishing at Bajo de Masinloc.
The National Task Force West Philippine Sea stated that the government will investigate the reports and forward the findings to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) for possible legal action.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) recently found extensive damage to the lagoon at Bajo de Masinloc, possibly caused by cyanide fishing by Chinese and Vietnamese fishermen.
China’s Foreign Ministry denied the allegations, stating that they attach great importance to eco-environmental protection and fight against fishing activities that violate laws and regulations.
The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines called the allegations baseless and urged the relevant Philippine agencies to handle maritime issues seriously and maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.
