Filipino tennis star Alex Eala bowed out of the Wimbledon Championships after falling to world No. 17 Jasmine Paolini, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, in a hard-fought fourth-round match in London.
Eala rallied to win the second set and force a decider, but Paolini captured the final three games of the match to secure a quarterfinal berth.
Despite the defeat, the 21-year-old Filipina achieved her best-ever Wimbledon finish and earned €300,000 (about P24 million) in prize money.
Eala also thanked the thousands of Filipino fans who filled the stands and created a home-court atmosphere throughout her inspiring Grand Slam campaign.
Her breakthrough performance further cemented her status as one of the Philippines’ brightest tennis stars on the international stage.
