The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will conduct field tests and mock polls for the new automated counting machines (ACMs) ahead of the May 2025 midterm elections to ensure their security and accuracy.
Field tests are scheduled for October 30 in various locations, including the National Capital Region and international cities like Tokyo and New York, while mock elections will be held on November 23 in selected Philippine areas and Hong Kong.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized that these tests are crucial for evaluating the automated election system.
Recently, the Comelec received an additional 8,640 ACMs, bringing the total delivered to 24,000 out of the 110,000 procured.
The final acceptance test for the hardware will begin on September 11.
